Where is Hotaru made?
Hotaru is assembled in dedicated rice cooker factories in China that manufacture premium rice cooker products for a number of established international brands, including Cuckoo, Cuchen, Panasonic and Tiger.
Manufacturing in China does not mean that every component used in Hotaru is sourced from China. Like many modern appliances, Hotaru is manufactured using components sourced internationally, with certain parts coming from countries including Japan, South Korea and Germany. This allows us to specify components based on their quality, performance and suitability rather than limiting ourselves to components from a single country.
International manufacturing and quality control
Hotaru is produced in a dedicated manufacturing environment with comprehensive quality control and manufacturing procedures. The factory operates to recognised international manufacturing standards, and its processes have been independently inspected to help ensure that the required quality and production standards are maintained.
Every stage of production is subject to quality control, from component sourcing and assembly through to testing of the completed appliance. This is important to us because a rice cooker is a precision cooking appliance: consistent heating, accurate temperature control and reliable electronic components are all essential to achieving the cooking results that Hotaru is designed to provide.
Why isn't everything made in one country?
It is actually relatively uncommon for modern electrical appliances to be completely manufactured and assembled in a single country.
Today's global manufacturing industry commonly involves components being sourced from specialist manufacturers in different countries and then assembled in a dedicated factory. This is not unique to Hotaru or to rice cookers—it is standard practice across much of the consumer electronics and domestic appliance industries.
For example, a manufacturer may source a particular display, electronic component, heating technology or specialist bowl coating from a country with expertise in that particular component, while final assembly takes place elsewhere.
The country of final assembly therefore does not tell you where all of the components in a product have been manufactured. What matters is the quality of the individual components, the manufacturing processes used, the quality-control procedures applied and the safety and compliance standards to which the finished product is manufactured.
