The rice is not ready at the correct time

It is extremely rare for a Yum Asia rice cooker not to work as intended. Our rice cookers have very low fault rates and are manufactured to high quality and reliability standards.

If you notice that your rice cooker appears to start earlier than expected, or that the cooking and timer display do not seem to correspond exactly with the time you selected, this is not necessarily a fault. Please check the following before contacting support.

1. Check the Timer Setting

First, make sure that the timer has been set correctly according to the instructions for your particular rice cooker model.

It is important to understand that the timer on our fuzzy-logic rice cookers is not an exact countdown to the moment the cooking process begins. The time displayed should be considered the intended completion time rather than a precise indication of when the heating element will switch on.

2. Why Does the Rice Cooker Start Early?

Yum Asia rice cookers use fuzzy-logic technology to automatically adjust the cooking process according to the contents of the inner bowl.

The rice cooker does not simply follow a fixed cooking time. It monitors conditions such as temperature and the contents of the bowl and uses this information to determine how the cooking process should be managed. This allows it to adapt to different quantities and types of food, including rice, oats and other ingredients.

When using the timer function, the rice cooker therefore needs to allow some additional time for its intelligent cooking system to assess the contents and determine the appropriate cooking parameters.

To achieve the selected completion time, the cooker may therefore begin the cooking process earlier than you might expect. This is intentional and forms part of the way the fuzzy-logic timer operates.

3. What Does This Mean in Practice?

For example, if you set the timer for a particular completion time, the rice cooker may switch on before the exact cooking duration you would normally expect.

This does not mean that the rice is being cooked for longer than it should be.

The cooker is effectively allowing time for its intelligent control system to assess the contents of the bowl and then manage the cooking process appropriately. The actual cooking cycle is controlled in the same way as it would be when cooking without the timer.

You may therefore notice that the Keep Warm time displayed after cooking appears different from what you expected based on the timer setting. This is normal behaviour and is not, by itself, an indication of a fault.

In Summary

The timer is designed around the desired completion time, not the exact moment the cooker starts heating.

Because fuzzy-logic technology needs to assess the contents of the inner bowl and adjust the cooking process accordingly, the cooker may start earlier when using the timer. This allows it to complete the cooking cycle at the intended time while still providing the same intelligent cooking performance you would get when starting a programme manually.

So, if your rice cooker starts earlier than expected when using the timer, don't worry — this is normal operation rather than a fault.
