Can I use other bowls in my rice cooker?

You should only use the inner bowl specifically designed for the rice cooker you are using.

Rice cookers are calibrated and engineered to work with their corresponding inner bowl. The bowl is not simply a container for the rice — its material, construction, thickness, weight, shape and coating all form part of the cooking system.

Even if another bowl looks identical or appears to be the same size, do not use it unless it is specifically designed for your rice cooker model. Different bowls can have differences in their composition, materials, thickness, coatings and other characteristics that can affect how heat is transferred and how the rice cooker controls the cooking process.

Using an incorrect inner bowl can:

  • Affect the way the rice cooker cooks

  • Produce inconsistent or poor cooking results

  • Potentially damage the rice cooker

  • Cause the cooker to operate outside of its intended design parameters

  • Invalidate your warranty

  • In some circumstances, potentially create a safety risk

For these reasons, never substitute an inner bowl from another rice cooker, even if it appears to fit.

Replacement inner bowls

If you need a replacement bowl, you can purchase the correct inner bowl for rice cookers purchased from Yum Asia through our spare parts pages.

Yum Asia Spare Parts

Yum Asia replacement bowls are generally available to purchase directly, subject to stock availability.

Zojirushi replacement bowls are different. These can have significantly longer lead times and may need to be requested at least 4–6 months in advance. We therefore recommend contacting us as early as possible if you require a replacement Zojirushi inner bowl.

When ordering a replacement, always make sure you select the exact bowl designed for your specific rice cooker model rather than choosing one based solely on appearance or dimensions.
