My rice cooker doesn't have measurements for one cup of rice?
If your rice cooker does not have a dedicated inner-bowl water level line for one cup of rice — as is the case with many rice cookers — you can use the rice measuring cup supplied with the cooker to measure both the rice and water.
As a general starting point:
1 rice measuring cup of white rice: add 1 rice measuring cup of water
1 rice measuring cup of brown rice: add 1½ rice measuring cups of water
These ratios are a useful starting point, but the ideal amount of water can vary depending on the type, age and brand of rice, as well as your preferred texture. You may therefore need to make small adjustments to achieve your preferred result.
All of the rice cookers we sell, including both Yum Asia and Zojirushi models, are capable of cooking a small quantity of rice. In fact, our Yum Asia rice cookers can cook as little as half a rice measuring cup of rice, making them suitable even when you are cooking for one person or only need a small portion.
For the most accurate results, always use the rice measuring cup supplied with your cooker, rather than a standard household measuring cup, as rice cooker cups are typically a different size.
