My cooked rice is too hard or soft

If the texture of your cooked rice is not quite right, this does not necessarily indicate a fault with the rice cooker. The final texture can be affected by the type of rice, amount of water, cooking method and programme selected.

Please try the following suggestions:

  • Make sure your rice cooker is positioned on a flat, stable surface. The cooker should be level during the entire cooking process.

  • Be aware that using the TIMER function can result in softer rice. When rice is left soaking in water before the cooking cycle begins, it absorbs additional moisture. This can result in a softer texture once cooked.

  • The QUICK COOK function can produce slightly firmer rice. This programme uses a shorter cooking process, so the finished rice may have a firmer texture compared with rice cooked using the standard programme.

  • Adjust the amount of water if necessary. If your rice is too hard or dry, try adding a little more water next time. If it is too soft or wet, try using slightly less water. Make small adjustments rather than making large changes to the water level.

  • Make sure you are using uncooked rice. Do not use pre-cooked, easy-cook or parboiled rice. These types of rice have already been processed or partially cooked and are not suitable for use in our rice cookers.

  • Allow the rice to rest on KEEP WARM after cooking. Once the cooking cycle has finished, leave the rice on KEEP WARM for several minutes before gently stirring it. This allows excess moisture to redistribute and steam to escape, helping to improve the final texture.

Different varieties and brands of rice can naturally produce different results, so some adjustment to the water level may be necessary to achieve your preferred texture. Even when following the same cooking instructions, factors such as the age, variety and processing of the rice can affect the final result.

If you have tried the above suggestions and are still having problems achieving the correct rice texture, please get in contact with us. Please provide details of the type and quantity of rice you are using, the amount of water, the cooking programme selected and, if possible, a photograph of the cooked rice. We will then be able to help you troubleshoot the issue and achieve the best possible results from your rice cooker.
