I am confused about the porridge setting
The PORRIDGE function on the rice cookers we sell can be used to prepare both Asian-style rice porridge (congee) and oatmeal porridge.
However, porridge can produce significantly more foam and bubbling than ordinary rice, so it is important to follow the quantities and instructions in your rice cooker user manual and never exceed the stated maximum quantities.
Congee and Oatmeal
Yum Asia brand rice cookers include recipes in their user manuals for both congee and oat porridge, allowing you to follow the recommended quantities and cooking method for your particular model.
Zojirushi brand rice cookers include a congee recipe in their user manuals.
The exact quantities and cooking method can vary between models, so always refer to the manual supplied with your particular rice cooker rather than applying quantities from another model.
Oatmeal and Steel-Cut Oats
If you are looking for additional advice on making oatmeal or steel-cut oatmeal in a rice cooker, you can also take a look at our recipe resources:

We also have a video demonstrating how to make oatmeal porridge using the Kumo rice cooker. When following a recipe demonstrated on a different model, make sure you adjust the quantities to suit the capacity and instructions for your own rice cooker.
Important
Do not exceed the recommended quantities in your user manual when cooking porridge.
Oats and rice used for congee can create a considerable amount of foam during cooking. Exceeding the recommended capacity can therefore result in boiling over through the steam vent, even when the rice cooker itself is operating normally.
For the best results, use the quantities and cooking instructions specified for your particular model and adjust recipes from other sources accordingly. Please follow the instructions stated in your rice cooker user manual for making porridge and do not exceed the stated quantities.
