What types of rice can I cook in Hotaru?
We designed Fuji primarily as a rice cooker, with great-tasting rice at the heart of its design. Its advanced cooking technology provides dedicated programmes for different rice varieties and cooking styles, giving you greater control over the texture, flavour and preparation of your rice.
Fuji has 5 main rice-cooking options:
WHITE
The WHITE setting is designed for cooking white rice.
When WHITE is selected and flashing, you can choose the appropriate rice type using the RICE TYPE button on the control panel:
SHORT GRAIN – ideal for short-grain varieties such as sushi rice
LONG GRAIN – suitable for long-grain varieties such as basmati, jasmine and Thai fragrant rice
This allows Fuji to adjust the cooking process according to the characteristics of the rice you're preparing.
YUMAMI
The YUMAMI setting is also designed for white rice but uses a specialised cooking cycle with different temperature stages.
The carefully phased cooking process is designed to encourage the release of naturally occurring sugars within the rice, producing rice with a richer, sweeter and more pronounced flavour.
The result is intended to make the rice particularly flavourful and moreish, hence the name Yumami.
BROWN RICE
The BROWN RICE setting is designed for cooking both long- and short-grain brown rice.
Brown rice requires different cooking conditions from white rice because the bran layer affects how the rice absorbs water and softens during cooking.
Fuji's dedicated Brown Rice programme provides the appropriate cooking conditions to produce properly cooked, tender brown rice.
GABA
The GABA setting is designed to soak and activate brown rice as part of the cooking process.
GABA stands for gamma-aminobutyric acid, and the process is also known as hatsuga genmai in Japanese.
During the GABA programme, Fuji provides a controlled soaking and activation period before proceeding with cooking. This allows the brown rice to undergo the activation process within the cooker rather than requiring you to prepare it separately.
GABA brown rice is often associated with potential nutritional benefits, which is one of the reasons this specialised cooking method has become popular.
CRUST / TAHDIG
The CRUST setting is designed for preparing Persian-style Tahdig rice.
Tahdig is famous for its delicious golden, crispy rice crust that forms at the bottom of the cooking bowl.
Fuji's dedicated Crust programme allows you to prepare this traditional style of rice conveniently using the rice cooker.
