What types of rice can I cook in Bamboo?
We designed Bamboo primarily as a premium rice cooker, with great-tasting rice at the heart of its design. Its Induction Heating (IH) technology and advanced fuzzy logic cooking control allow it to precisely manage temperature and cooking time throughout the cooking process.
Bamboo offers 7 dedicated rice-cooking programmes, giving you the flexibility to prepare everything from everyday white rice to GABA brown rice and Persian-style Tahdig.
Bamboo's 7 Rice Cooking Options
WHITE
The WHITE setting is designed for long-grain white rice, including:
Basmati
Jasmine
Thai fragrant rice
Other long-grain white rice varieties
This is the ideal everyday setting for cooking fluffy, well-separated long-grain white rice.
QUICK COOK
The QUICK COOK setting is designed for those times when you want your rice ready a little faster.
It reduces the overall cooking time compared with the standard cooking programme, making it particularly useful when you're short on time.
SHORT GRAIN
The SHORT GRAIN setting is designed for short-grain rice varieties, including:
Pearl rice
Sushi rice
Thai sticky rice
Glutinous rice
Other short-grain rice varieties
Short-grain rice has different water absorption and texture characteristics from long-grain rice, so Bamboo uses a dedicated cooking cycle to achieve the appropriate results.
BROWN RICE
The BROWN RICE setting can be used for both long- and short-grain brown rice.
Brown rice retains its bran layer and therefore requires different cooking conditions from white rice. Bamboo's dedicated Brown Rice programme provides the appropriate cooking time and temperature profile for these varieties.
GABA
The GABA setting is designed to make preparing GABA-activated brown rice considerably easier.
GABA brown rice is traditionally prepared by soaking brown rice at around 30–40°C for an extended period, often requiring soaking for up to several days and changing the water regularly.
Bamboo automates this activation process. When you select the GABA programme, the cooker begins with a carefully controlled soaking and activation period, after which it automatically proceeds to the cooking stage.
The complete GABA programme takes approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes, including the additional activation period.
This means you don't need to separately soak and monitor the rice for an extended period before cooking – Bamboo manages the process as part of the programme.
YUMAMI
The YUMAMI setting can be used with white rice.
This is a specialised cooking programme that uses a carefully controlled sequence of different temperatures and cooking phases.
The extended and phased cooking process is designed to encourage the release of naturally occurring sugars from the rice, producing rice with a richer, sweeter and more pronounced flavour.
The name Yumami reflects the aim of producing rice that is particularly tasty and moreish.
CRUST
The CRUST setting is designed for preparing Persian-style Tahdig rice.
Tahdig is traditionally known for its delicious golden, crispy crust that forms at the bottom of the cooking vessel.
Bamboo's dedicated Crust programme gives you the ability to prepare this style of rice using the rice cooker, providing a convenient way to achieve a crisp, golden rice layer while still cooking the rice above it.
Seven Programmes, One Core Purpose
Bamboo's extensive selection of rice programmes means you can tailor the cooking process to the type of rice and the result you want:
Programme | Designed for |
|---|---|
WHITE | Long-grain white rice |
QUICK COOK | Faster white-rice cooking |
SHORT GRAIN | Short-grain, sushi and sticky rice |
BROWN RICE | Long- or short-grain brown rice |
GABA | GABA-activated brown rice |
YUMAMI | Enhanced-flavour white rice |
CRUST | Persian-style Tahdig rice |
Bamboo isn't simply designed to cook rice; it is designed to cook different types of rice in different ways. Its combination of IH heating, advanced cooking control and dedicated programmes gives you the flexibility to choose the cooking method that best suits the rice you're preparing.
