Is it normal for the outside of my Fuji Joubu bowl to not be smooth?

The bobbled or bubble-like texture on the outside of the Joubu inner bowl is completely normal and is not a manufacturing defect.

This distinctive texture is a natural result of the ceramic firing process used to produce the bowl. During firing, the ceramic material undergoes changes that can create the characteristic slightly uneven or textured appearance on the exterior.

Importantly, this isn't something that we try to eliminate. The textured finish is also an intentional design feature of the Joubu bowl, giving it a distinctive, authentic appearance.

What You Should Expect

The outside of a Joubu bowl may therefore have:

  • A bobbled or bubble-like texture

  • Slight variations in the surface

  • An intentionally uneven ceramic appearance

  • Natural characteristics resulting from the firing process

These characteristics are normal and expected and do not affect the performance, safety or cooking ability of the bowl.

So if your Joubu bowl looks slightly bobbled or textured on the outside, there's no need to worry – that's exactly how it is designed to look.
