What types of rice can I cook in Sakura?
We designed Sakura primarily as a dedicated rice cooker, with its core purpose being to produce consistently excellent rice across a wide range of rice varieties.
Rather than having just one generic rice programme, Sakura gives you several different ways to cook rice, allowing you to choose between convenience, speed and more refined cooking depending on the type of rice and the result you want.
Sakura's Rice Cooking Options
Sakura has three main rice-cooking options:
REGULAR
FAST COOK
RICE – a dedicated submenu offering three specialised rice programmes
REGULAR
The REGULAR function is designed for everyday rice cooking when you simply want reliably cooked rice without selecting one of the more specialised rice programmes.
It provides a straightforward cooking process for normal rice and is ideal for everyday meals when speed or a specific rice style isn't the priority.
FAST COOK
The FAST COOK function is designed for those occasions when you need your rice ready a little sooner.
It reduces the cooking time compared with the standard cooking programme while still using Sakura's intelligent cooking technology to produce good results.
This is particularly useful when you've arrived home hungry and don't want to wait for a longer cooking cycle.
RICE – Refined Rice Cooking
For more specialised and refined rice cooking, Sakura has a dedicated RICE submenu.
To access it, press the MENU button until the RICE icon begins to blink on the control panel. You can then use the RICE button to move through the three specialised rice programmes.
These are:
1. LONG GRAIN
The LONG GRAIN function is designed for long-grain rice varieties, including:
Basmati
Jasmine
Thai fragrant rice
Other long-grain white rice varieties
This programme is designed to give long-grain rice the cooking conditions it needs to produce a well-cooked, properly textured result.
2. SHORT GRAIN
The SHORT GRAIN function is designed for short-grain rice varieties, including:
Pearl rice
Sushi rice
Other short-grain rice varieties
Short-grain rice behaves differently from long-grain rice during cooking, so having a dedicated programme allows Sakura to adjust the cooking process accordingly.
3. BROWN RICE
The BROWN RICE function is specifically designed for brown rice.
Because brown rice retains its bran layer and therefore absorbs water and expands differently from white rice, it benefits from a dedicated cooking programme rather than being treated exactly the same as white rice.
A Rice Cooker First
Sakura's extensive multicooker functions are useful, but rice remains at the heart of its design.
The different rice programmes give you the flexibility to select the most appropriate cooking process for the rice you're preparing, whether you want everyday rice, faster cooking, refined long-grain or short-grain cooking, or properly prepared brown rice.
Sakura was designed around one fundamental principle: whatever type of rice you're cooking, the cooker should give you the best possible conditions to produce delicious, consistently cooked rice.
