What types of rice can I cook in Panda?
We designed Panda primarily as a dedicated rice cooker, with its core purpose being to produce consistently excellent rice across a wide variety of rice types.
Despite its compact size, Panda gives you four dedicated rice-cooking programmes, allowing you to select the appropriate cooking process depending on the type of rice you're preparing and whether you want to prioritise speed.
Panda's Rice Cooking Options
LONG GRAIN
The LONG GRAIN function is designed for long-grain white rice varieties, including:
Basmati
Jasmine
Thai fragrant rice
Other long-grain white rice
This programme is designed to provide the appropriate cooking conditions for long-grain rice, helping produce separate, fluffy and evenly cooked grains.
SHORT GRAIN
The SHORT GRAIN function is designed for white short-grain rice, including:
Pearl rice
Sushi rice
Thai sticky rice
Other short-grain white rice varieties
Short-grain rice behaves differently from long-grain rice during cooking, particularly in its water absorption and final texture, so Panda provides a dedicated programme for these varieties.
BROWN
The BROWN function is designed for both long- and short-grain brown rice.
Brown rice retains its bran layer and therefore requires different cooking conditions from white rice. The dedicated Brown programme allows Panda to use a cooking cycle more appropriate for the characteristics of brown rice.
QUICK COOK
The QUICK COOK function is designed for white rice when you need your rice ready a little sooner.
It reduces the overall cooking time compared with the standard specialised programmes, making it useful when you're short on time while still providing Panda's controlled cooking process.
Please note: Quick Cook is intended for white rice only. For brown rice, long-grain rice or short-grain rice, use the appropriate dedicated programme.
