What is the maximum capacity for brown rice in Tsuki?
Yes! Kotori can cook up to 1.5 cups of uncooked brown rice, even though its maximum capacity for uncooked white rice is 2.5 cups.
The difference in capacity is intentional and is due to the way brown rice behaves during cooking.
Why Is the Brown Rice Capacity Lower?
Brown rice retains its outer bran layer, which means it absorbs water differently from white rice and expands differently as it cooks.
Brown rice generally requires more water and has different expansion characteristics during cooking. As a result, it needs more space inside the cooking bowl than the equivalent quantity of white rice.
For this reason, Kotori's 2.5-cup capacity refers to uncooked white rice, while the maximum recommended capacity for uncooked brown rice is 1.5 cups.
Kotori Rice Capacity
Rice type | Maximum uncooked capacity |
|---|---|
White rice | 2.5 cups |
Brown rice | 1.5 cups |
This ensures there is sufficient room for the brown rice to absorb water and expand during the cooking process without exceeding the cooker’s intended capacity.
Important When Cooking Brown Rice
If you're cooking brown rice in Kotori, do not fill the bowl to the 2.5-cup white-rice maximum.
Instead, use a maximum of 1.5 cups of uncooked brown rice and follow the appropriate water-level guidance for brown rice.
This allows Kotori's cooking programme to operate correctly and gives the rice enough room to expand during cooking.
Remember: 2.5 cups is the white-rice capacity; 1.5 cups is the maximum brown-rice capacity.
The lower brown-rice capacity isn't a limitation or fault – it's simply a result of the different way brown rice absorbs water and expands compared with white rice.
