What is the maximum capacity for brown rice in Panda?

Yes! You can cook up to 2.5 cups of uncooked brown rice in Kumo, even though Kumo has a 3.5-cup maximum capacity for uncooked white rice.

The difference is intentional and relates to the way brown rice behaves during cooking.

Why Is the Brown Rice Capacity Lower?

Brown rice has its outer bran layer intact, which means it absorbs water differently from white rice and also expands differently as it cooks.

As brown rice cooks, it requires additional water and produces greater expansion. This means that the maximum safe and effective quantity of brown rice is lower than the maximum quantity of white rice that Kumo can accommodate.

For this reason, the 3.5-cup capacity applies to white rice, while the maximum recommended quantity for brown rice is 2.5 cups.

This reduced brown-rice capacity ensures that there is sufficient space inside the inner bowl for the rice to absorb the required water and expand during cooking without exceeding the intended cooking capacity.

Don't Fill to the White Rice Maximum

If you're cooking brown rice, do not use the full 3.5-cup white-rice capacity.

Instead, keep the quantity to a maximum of 2.5 cups of uncooked brown rice and use the appropriate brown-rice water-level markings in the inner bowl.

This allows Kumo's cooking programme to work within the capacity for which it was designed.

3.5 cups white rice ≠ 3.5 cups brown rice.

The different capacity is simply a reflection of the different way brown and white rice behave during cooking.
