What is the Kumo inner bowl made from?

During our many years of selling Zojirushi rice cookers, we noticed that rice cookers available across the UK, Europe and USA predominantly used inner bowls with Teflon or similar non-stick coatings.

We received many questions and comments from customers about the materials used in rice cooker inner bowls. Based on this feedback, we decided to develop an alternative that would provide excellent cooking performance while offering a durable ceramic cooking surface.

The result is our Ninja Bowl, which is supplied with Kumo.

A Durable 2mm Ceramic Coating

The Kumo Ninja Bowl features a premium, durable 2mm-thick ceramic coating.

We selected this construction because we wanted an inner bowl that would be hard wearing and suitable for the demands of everyday rice cooking, while providing the excellent non-stick properties expected from a premium rice cooker.

The ceramic coating is designed to provide a durable cooking surface that is easy to use and maintain.

BPA, PTFE and PFAS Free

The Ninja Bowl is BPA, PTFE and PFAS free, including PFOA and PFOS.

This was an important consideration in the development of the bowl. We wanted to offer customers a ceramic-coated alternative to the conventional non-stick surfaces commonly found in rice cookers.

The result is a cooking surface designed to provide excellent food release without relying on a PTFE-based coating.

Honeycomb Structure for Heat Distribution

The Ninja Bowl also incorporates a special honeycomb structure within its design.

This helps heat to disperse more evenly across the surface of the inner bowl, creating a more consistent cooking environment.

Even heat distribution is particularly important when cooking rice, helping to ensure that heat is distributed throughout the bowl rather than being concentrated in one particular area.

This also complements Kumo's cooking technology, helping it produce consistent results from batch to batch.

Clear, Hard-Wearing Measurement Lines

We also paid particular attention to the measurement markings inside the bowl.

Rather than simply stamping the water-level lines into the bowl, the Ninja Bowl uses silk-printed measurement markings.

These are designed to be:

  • Clear and easy to read

  • Hard wearing

  • Easy to see in lower-light conditions

  • Convenient for accurately measuring the correct amount of water

Accurate water measurement is one of the most important factors in producing consistently good rice, so making these markings easy to read was an important part of the bowl's design.

Why We Call It the Ninja Bowl

The Ninja Bowl represents our approach to designing rice cooker inner bowls differently.

We wanted to combine:

2mm durable ceramic coating + BPA, PTFE and PFAS-free construction + honeycomb heat distribution + clear measurement markings

into one premium inner bowl specifically designed for everyday rice cooking.

The result is a bowl that is durable, practical and designed for excellent cooking performance.

Kumo's Ninja Bowl: a premium ceramic cooking surface designed for rice lovers who want more from their rice cooker.
