What is Kotori by Yum Asia?
Kotori – The Little Bird That Changes the Way You Cook
Kotori (小鳥, meaning "little bird" in Japanese) is a compact 1-cup mini donburi rice cooker that introduces a completely new way to prepare, cook and enjoy individual meals.
Rather than being simply a small rice cooker, Kotori has been designed around the concept of complete one-pot meal preparation. Its innovative multi-layer cooking system allows different ingredients to be cooked simultaneously, while its compact donburi-inspired design means that, once cooking is complete, the cooking bowl can be lifted from the control base and taken directly to the table for serving and eating.
It is ideally sized for one person, although it can also prepare smaller meals for two people, and its tiny footprint makes it perfect for compact kitchens, apartments, offices, student accommodation and anyone who wants a convenient way to prepare fresh meals without using multiple pans.
Small Footprint. Big Ideas.
Kotori is available in two stylish colours:
Chalk White
Charcoal Black
Its minimalist matte exterior and Japanese-inspired donburi styling give Kotori a distinctive appearance that looks at home in both modern and traditional kitchens.
But the real innovation is underneath the stylish exterior.
Kotori has been designed to make complete, nutritious and delicious meals in one compact appliance, with different layers allowing you to cook multiple elements of a meal at the same time.
A Completely New Way to Cook One-Pot Meals
Kotori's multi-layer cooking system gives you the ability to combine different cooking methods in one programme.
For example, you can:
Cook rice in the Ninja ceramic bowl
while simultaneously
steaming vegetables, meat or fish in the stainless steel steaming tray
and, where appropriate,
use the additional stainless steel steaming bowl for sauces or other liquids.
This means an entire meal can be prepared simultaneously rather than requiring several saucepans, steamers and cooking appliances.
And when you're finished, you don't necessarily need another serving dish.
Simply lift the bowl assembly from the heating base and take it to the table.
Advanced Rice Cooking Technology
Despite its tiny size, Kotori contains sophisticated rice-cooking technology.
It features:
Advanced Fuzzy Logic processing
Multi-phase cooking
3 rice cooking functions
3 additional cooking functions
Full cooking countdown
LED display
Korean-designed MoTouch control panel
Power Heating technology
12-hour Keep Warm
Yum Asia-calibrated cooking programmes
This means Kotori doesn't simply boil rice until the water disappears.
Its Advanced Fuzzy Logic system intelligently manages the cooking process through multiple stages, adjusting the cooking conditions to help produce consistently excellent results.
The Ninja Ceramic Inner Bowl
At the heart of Kotori is our signature Ninja inner bowl, featuring a durable 2mm ceramic coating.
The Ninja bowl provides an excellent cooking surface for rice while also being versatile enough for Kotori's one-pot cooking applications.
The bowl can be used independently or combined with Kotori's other cooking layers depending on what you are preparing.
Multiple Cooking Configurations
One of the clever things about Kotori is that you can configure it according to the meal you want to prepare.
You can use:
Ninja bowl only
For cooking rice, brown rice, sushi rice, porridge and other dishes.
Ninja bowl + stainless steel steaming tray
For cooking rice while simultaneously steaming vegetables, fish, meat or other ingredients.
Ninja bowl + steaming tray + stainless steel steaming bowl
For creating more elaborate meals where you can also heat or cook sauces and other liquids.
This flexibility makes Kotori far more versatile than its size might suggest.
Rice, Porridge, Steaming and Slow Cooking
Kotori isn't restricted to one type of food.
Its rice programmes allow you to prepare:
White rice
Brown rice
Short-grain rice
Sushi rice
And its additional cooking functions include:
Steam
Porridge
Slow Cook
So whether you want a simple bowl of perfectly cooked rice, a warming porridge, steamed vegetables, a slow-cooked meal or a complete one-pot dish, Kotori gives you plenty of options.
Designed for Complete Meals
We wanted Kotori to make it easier to prepare proper meals for one rather than simply providing another way to cook rice.
That's why we include a 7-day recipe book and meal planner, containing more than 20 recipes and guidance on how to make the most of Kotori's multi-layer cooking system.
The recipes are designed to demonstrate how different ingredients can be cooked together, helping you understand how to combine the different cooking layers and functions.
And because Kotori is so compact, it can make preparing a fresh meal feel considerably less complicated.
One appliance. One cooking cycle. One complete meal.
Take It Straight to the Table
Kotori's design has another clever advantage.
The entire bowl section can be lifted away from the control and heating base once cooking is complete.
The outer bowl housing is designed to remain cooler to the touch, allowing you to handle the bowl assembly and take it to the table for serving.
This gives Kotori its distinctive donburi character – the cooking vessel effectively becomes your serving bowl.
There's no need to transfer your meal into another dish, creating fewer things to wash afterwards.
The bowl assembly can also be removed for easier cleaning, and the different cooking components can be used according to what you are preparing.
Japanese-Inspired Donburi Design
The word donburi (丼) refers to a Japanese style of dish consisting of food served in a bowl, often combining rice with other ingredients.
Kotori takes inspiration from this concept and turns it into an appliance.
The result is something that is both functional and visually distinctive.
Its matte exterior, rounded form and compact proportions give it an appealing Japanese-inspired aesthetic, while the Chalk White and Charcoal Black finishes allow it to complement a wide range of kitchen styles.
Wooden Eating Utensils Included
Kotori even comes supplied with its own wooden eating utensils, including:
Chopsticks
Fork
Spoon
So once your meal is cooked, you can take the bowl to the table and eat directly from it using the supplied utensils.
It's all part of our aim to make Kotori a complete individual-meal solution, rather than simply another kitchen appliance.
Health-Conscious Materials
We believe that the materials used in a cooking appliance are just as important as its cooking technology.
Kotori is designed using carefully selected materials and does not contain BPA, PTFE or PFOA.
The combination of the Ninja ceramic-coated inner bowl, stainless steel cooking components and durable exterior materials provides a cooking system designed with everyday use, durability and easy cleaning in mind.
A Mini Cooker with a Huge Amount of Versatility
Kotori may be one of the smallest cookers in the Yum Asia range, but it offers an impressive amount of functionality.
You can:
Cook rice.
Cook rice and steam a complete meal at the same time.
Make porridge.
Slow cook.
Steam vegetables, meat or fish.
Heat sauces and liquids.
Prepare one-pot meals.
Take the finished meal straight to the table.
And because everything happens in one compact appliance, Kotori can dramatically reduce the amount of cookware and washing-up required.

The Little Bird with Big Ideas
Kotori was designed for people who want fresh, properly cooked food without the complexity of using multiple kitchen appliances.
It is particularly suited to single people and couples, but also works brilliantly for anyone who values compact cooking, portion control and convenient one-pot meals.
It's a rice cooker, steamer, slow cooker and one-pot meal maker – all wrapped up in a tiny Japanese-inspired donburi design.
Kotori is small enough to fit almost anywhere.
But it certainly doesn't cook small.
