The Kumo lid does not stay upright when open. Is it broken?
If you have just received your Kumo rice cooker and notice that the lid doesn't immediately stay fully open when you lift it, this is usually normal with a brand-new unit.
The lid hinge is new from the factory and may initially be slightly stiff because it has not yet been used. During production, storage and transportation, the lid remains closed for extended periods, so the hinge can take a little time to loosen and settle into its normal operating position.
How to Help the Lid Settle
When opening Kumo during its first few uses, you can help the hinge settle into the correct position:
Place one hand on the opposite side of Kumo to steady the cooker.
Open the lid normally.
Gently push the lid as far back as it will comfortably go.
Allow the hinge to gradually become accustomed to the fully open position.
This effectively helps the hinge "train" or settle into its correct open position.
With normal use, the hinge should loosen slightly and the lid should become more comfortable to operate and remain open when fully opened.
Please Don't Force the Hinge
There is no need to apply excessive force to the lid. Simply open it normally and gently move it to its intended fully open position.
New cooker → stiff hinge → gentle repeated use → hinge settles → lid stays open normally
