My rice cooker is stuck on keep warm or cooking and won't turn off. What do I do?
All Yum Asia rice cookers have a built-in memory function designed to help protect the cooking programme and settings in the event of a temporary power interruption.
This can be particularly useful if there is a brief power cut while your rice cooker is cooking or keeping food warm.
However, there is an important distinction between an actual power outage and manually interrupting the rice cooker.
What Happens If You Unplug the Rice Cooker?
If you unplug the rice cooker while it is cooking or during the keep-warm cycle without first pressing CANCEL, the cooker may retain the previous programme or operating state in its memory.
This can sometimes make the rice cooker appear as though it is not responding normally when you next try to use it.
The same situation can occur if the power is interrupted unexpectedly and then restored.
The Simple Solution
In most cases, this is very easy to resolve.
Simply:
1. Press and hold the CANCEL button for several seconds, or
2. Press the CANCEL button once, depending on your particular Yum Asia model.
This should reset the current programme and return the rice cooker to its normal standby state.
Once reset, you can select your desired cooking programme and use the rice cooker normally.
Why Should I Press CANCEL Before Unplugging?
The CANCEL button tells the rice cooker that you have intentionally finished or interrupted the current programme.
If you simply unplug the appliance, the rice cooker may interpret the loss of power as an interruption rather than a completed cooking cycle. Its memory function is designed to help preserve information in situations such as temporary power outages, so the cooker may retain the previous operating state.
For this reason, we recommend:
Always press CANCEL before unplugging your rice cooker, particularly if it is currently cooking or operating in keep-warm mode.
If the Problem Persists
If pressing or holding CANCEL does not resolve the issue, don't worry.
Please contact Yum Asia customer support for further assistance. We can help you troubleshoot the problem and determine whether anything else needs to be checked.
In most cases, however, a rice cooker that has been unplugged without cancelling its programme can be returned to normal operation simply by pressing or long-pressing the CANCEL button.
