I don't understand the Sakura capacity

Sakura has two different capacity ratings because it is designed to function both as a dedicated rice cooker and as a versatile multicooker.

It has a 1.5-litre / 8-cup rice-cooking capacity and a 3.3-litre multicooking capacity.

These two measurements refer to different things, so it's important not to confuse the rice-cooking capacity with the maximum volume the bowl can accommodate when using Sakura's multicooking functions.

1.5 Litres / 8 Cups of Rice

Sakura has a 1.5-litre rice-cooking capacity, which is equivalent to 8 rice-cooker cups of uncooked white rice.

Our rice-cooker measuring cup is based on 180ml, so approximately:

  • 1 cup of uncooked rice = 180ml / approximately 180g

  • 8 cups of uncooked white rice = approximately 1.44kg

  • Maximum white rice capacity = 8 cups

  • Maximum brown rice capacity = 6 cups

The maximum capacity for brown rice is lower because brown rice absorbs water differently and expands differently during cooking compared with white rice. Allowing additional room in the bowl ensures the rice has sufficient space to absorb water and expand during the cooking process.

For example, if you wanted to cook just 1 cup of white rice, you would use approximately 180g of uncooked rice. At the full 8-cup capacity, the uncooked rice would be approximately 1.44kg, or around 1.5kg.

3.3-Litre Multicooking Capacity

Sakura's second capacity rating is its 3.3-litre multicooking capacity.

This refers to the maximum volume that the inner bowl can accommodate when using Sakura for functions such as:

  • Soup

  • Slow cooking

  • Porridge

  • Steaming

  • Other multicooking recipes

The 3.3-litre figure is therefore not a rice-cooking capacity. It refers to the physical volume available for multicooking, particularly when working with liquids.
