I don't understand the capacity of Tsuki

Tsuki has two different capacity ratings, because it is both a dedicated rice cooker and a versatile multi-cooker.

Its capacities are:

  • 0.45 litre / 2.5 rice-cup capacity for cooking rice

  • 0.9 litre capacity for multi-cooking

These figures can initially seem confusing, so here's what they actually mean.

0.45 Litre / 2.5-Cup Rice Cooking Capacity

Rice cooker capacities are generally specified in litres and rice cups.

Tsuki has a 0.45 litre rice-cooking capacity, which corresponds to a maximum of 2.5 rice cups of uncooked rice.

The rice cup used with rice cookers is traditionally 180ml, rather than the 250ml cup commonly used for general cooking measurements.

Therefore:

  • 1 rice cup = approximately 180ml / 180g of uncooked rice

  • 2.5 rice cups = approximately 450ml / 450g of uncooked rice

So, if you want to cook one rice cup of uncooked rice, you would be using approximately 180g of rice.

If you use Tsuki at its maximum rice capacity, you can cook approximately 2.5 rice cups (450g) of uncooked rice.

The exact weight will vary depending on the variety and density of the rice, so the gram figures should be regarded as approximate. The supplied rice measuring cup and the water-level markings in the inner bowl should be used for the most accurate results.

0.9 Litre Multi-Cooking Capacity

The 0.9 litre capacity refers to Tsuki's capacity when it is being used as a multi-cooker, rather than when cooking rice.

This means the inner bowl can accommodate a maximum of 0.9 litres of liquid for appropriate multi-cooking applications.

It is important not to confuse the two measurements:

0.45 litres / 2.5 cups = maximum rice-cooking capacity

0.9 litres = maximum multi-cooking bowl capacity

They describe different aspects of Tsuki's functionality.

Why Are Rice Cooker Capacities Measured in Cups?

Rice cookers traditionally use a 180ml rice cup as their standard measurement. This is different from the standard 250ml measuring cup often used in general cooking.

This is why a rice cooker described as a 2.5-cup rice cooker does not mean it can hold 2.5 × 250ml of uncooked rice.

For Tsuki:

2.5 rice cups × 180ml = 450ml of uncooked rice

This is the conventional rice-cooker capacity measurement and is the basis for the 2.5-cup specification.

In Summary

Tsuki's 0.45 litre / 2.5-cup rating refers specifically to its maximum uncooked rice capacity, while its 0.9 litre rating refers to the maximum capacity of the inner bowl when using Tsuki's multi-cooking functions.

Small for rice cooking, versatile for multi-cooking – that's Tsuki.
