I don't understand the capacity of Kumo

Kumo has two different capacity ratings, because it can be used both as a dedicated rice cooker and as a versatile multicooker.

It has a 1-litre / 5.5-cup rice-cooking capacity and a 2.2-litre multicooking capacity.

Understanding the difference between these two measurements is important, as the rice-cooking capacity and the maximum liquid capacity are not the same thing.

1 Litre / 5.5-Cup Rice Cooking Capacity

Kumo has a 1-litre rice-cooking capacity, which is equivalent to 5.5 rice-cooker cups of uncooked rice.

For rice cookers, capacity is commonly expressed in either litres or rice-cooker cups.

Our rice-cooker measuring cup is based on 180ml, so:

  • 1 cup of uncooked rice ≈ 180g

  • 5.5 cups of uncooked white rice ≈ 1kg

  • Maximum white rice capacity = 5.5 cups

  • Maximum brown rice capacity = 4 cups

The lower maximum for brown rice is intentional because brown rice absorbs water differently and expands differently during cooking compared with white rice.

For example, if you wanted to cook just one cup of white rice, you would use approximately 180g of uncooked rice. If you wanted to use the full white-rice capacity, 5.5 cups would be approximately 990g, or roughly 1kg, of uncooked rice.

2.2-Litre Multicooking Capacity

The second capacity rating relates to Kumo's multicooking functions, rather than its rice capacity.

Kumo's inner bowl has a maximum multicooking capacity of approximately 2.2 litres of liquid.

This larger volume is relevant when using functions such as slow cooking, soup, porridge and other non-rice recipes.

It is important not to confuse the two ratings:

1 litre / 5.5 cups = rice-cooking capacity

2.2 litres = maximum multicooking bowl capacity

The multicooking capacity refers to the physical volume the bowl can accommodate; it does not mean that Kumo can cook 2.2 litres of uncooked rice.
