I have noticed a plastic or chemical smell / odour after using Oyu - is this bad?
All new appliances have a plastic or chemical odour (smell) or taste at first. As the products we sell are very new (less than 2 months from manufacture to dispatch from our warehouse) there is inevitably a smell or slightly unusual taste. This is in comparison to other brands products which usually sit in a warehouse for at least double that time so the smell/taste tends to dissipate.
If you want to speed the removable of any smell, put vinegar with hot water into the tank (follow the cleaning guidance amounts for how much vinegar to use) and leave this overnight. Then dispense and follow the rest of the cleaning instructions for cleaning through the vinegar. Vinegar is excellent for getting rid of plastic smells, another alternative is baking soda.
This is common amongst many appliance manufacturers as being a solution for this type of issue.
There is also a well known issue with this type of rapid heating technology and some water area types. In around 1% of water areas there is an issue where the water from taps can produce unusual tasting water. This is documented as being an issue with ALL brands for this instant heating type of heater. Please contact us if you think you have this issue. It will be extremely noticeable in comparison to a 'newness' odour or taste.
